Background
I have a background of Practice Nursing. Have worked in Papakura and locum work at other South Auckland practices. Prior to that worked in Operating Theatre at Middlemore.
At the clinic
I was the inaugural nurse at the Kawakawa Bay Clinic. We worked for 16 months to open the clinic in 1983. I have been Nurse Leader at the clinic three times since its inception. I was also a First Responder for St John until 2 years ago. Last year I resigned from the Nurse Leader position and am now a Relief Nurse for the team.
Serving the community
The Clinic means a lot to me. It brought me into the Kawakawa Bay and Orere Community when I was new to the district 43 years ago. We provide a nurse led service for one and all. This was especially important over Covid when people were not able to safely leave the district. We have provided community based educational sessions (eg Wellness Day) which have been well attended. Currently we do bloods, immunisations, dressings, District Nurse services, ear syringing (with Dr referral) and a raft of other services.
Semi-retirement
In my semi retirement I am enjoying more travelling, cooking, reading, walking and family time.
